On February 2nd, an unusual event took place in San José, the capital of Costa Rica. The Instituto Meteorológico Nacional recorded the lowest temperature registered in the region in the past 30 years.
A meteorological station located in San José (Costa Rica's capital city) reported a minimum temperature of 12.2°C (54°F), several degrees below the historical average. This marked not only a record low for February, but also an exceptional minimum for the region overall.
Lower temperatures were detected in other areas as well, and the effects of this cold event extended beyond the Central Valley. Here in Town, the morning of February 3rd began with an unusually cool 67.3°F (19.6°C), a rare occurrence for Guanacaste. This phenomenon was linked to the arrival of Cold Front No. 13, which brought strong winds and occasional rainfall across different parts of the country.
As the sun rose, conditions quickly shifted back to familiar summer temperatures. Still, encountering a cool morning in Guanacaste was an unexpected and interesting contrast within the dry season.
