A Night of Art, Community, and Culture in Las Catalinas

Last Saturday, June 27, Plaza Central welcomed a new chapter in the cultural life of Las Catalinas with the official opening of Estudio Rambar, a contemporary art gallery dedicated to showcasing art made in Costa Rica.

More than 150 visitors gathered for the celebration, including artists, residents, neighbors, collectors, business owners, and art enthusiasts. Throughout the evening, the gallery was filled with conversation as guests moved through the inaugural exhibition, reconnected with old friends, made new ones, and shared a collective appreciation for creativity, culture, and the artists shaping the country’s contemporary art scene.

By the end of the evening, it felt as though art had not simply arrived in Las Catalinas, but had found a home within its community.

The opening marked an important milestone not only for Estudio Rambar, but also for the growing cultural life of Town. Created with the purpose of generating new opportunities for artists creating in Costa Rica, the gallery seeks to connect their work with residents, visitors, and collectors from around the world.

Its inaugural exhibition brought together the work of more than 80 artists creating in Costa Rica, representing a wide range of disciplines, techniques, backgrounds, and artistic perspectives. Together, the pieces offered a broad glimpse into the country’s vibrant contemporary art scene, from painting and sculpture to textiles, ceramics, works on paper, and more.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening happened beyond the gallery walls. As part of the celebration, guests were invited on an art walk through Las Catalinas, where local businesses generously opened their doors to temporarily exhibit works of art made in Costa Rica. The walk transformed Town into an extension of the gallery, inviting visitors to experience art while discovering different corners of the community.

The art walk included stops at Las Catalinas Collection, Celeste, Center of Joy, Coquelicot, Coraline, Pascual, Pots & Bowls, Ponciana, Santarena, and Tamaki.

The experience reflected one of the ideas behind Estudio Rambar: that art becomes even more meaningful when it is integrated into the life of a community. By extending the exhibition beyond the gallery, the opening created new opportunities for residents and visitors to encounter art made in Costa Rica throughout Las Catalinas, not only as something to observe, but as something woven into the places where people walk, gather, dine, shop, and spend time together.

The evening was made possible through the collaboration of dozens of artists, local businesses, sponsors, and community partners. More than 80 artists participated in the inaugural exhibition, while Luxury Lane Realty, Unique Law and Business, BCT, and Papagayo Brewing Co. supported the celebration.

For those who did not have the chance to visit during opening night, Estudio Rambar is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The inaugural exhibition remains on view, inviting residents and visitors to explore art made in Costa Rica just steps away from the beach, in Plaza Central.
