On Monday, we shared that last week brought two animal rescues in Town and told the story of a spotted skunk safely released back into the forest, in hopes it would find its way to its family. Today, we’ll dive into the second rescue, a slightly bigger one.
Last week, builders working at Lot 140 in El Prado had quite a surprise when they found an almost three-meter-long boa hiding near a pile of wood. This boa species is native to Costa Rica and poses no danger to humans. However, catching and relocating it was important to ensure the safety of both the animal and the community.
Since this was a large and heavy animal, two members of the Agroforestry Team came to help, along with our Environmental Director. The three worked carefully together, using special tools to catch the snake without harming it. Due to the animal’s weight and strength, it took several attempts before they successfully placed it in a container for transport.
As the boa appeared healthy and showed no signs of injury, it was released in a section of Las Catalinas’ land, hand-selected by our Environmental Director and Agroforestry Team to ensure it was far enough from any residential areas and trails, and that it offered the right conditions for the boa to thrive. You can watch the boa’s release in this cool video below.
We’re grateful to have these encounters thanks to Town’s proximity to such a rich ecosystem, and to be equipped to take part in the rescue and relocation of animals in their natural environment, ensuring their safety and well-being.
