Today, we take a look both around town and around Costa Rica. There’s some news regarding forest fire prevention, a new Costa Rican tourism campaign, and a special event for Costa Rican Independence Day.

Costa Rica’s Exemplary Job Preventing Forest Fires

First, an excellent example set for Central America by SINAC and their Incendios Forestales Teams throughout the nation. Satellite imaging from FIRMS, the fire prevention software created by NASA, shows Costa Rica vastly ahead of neighboring countries in terms of fire prevention.

SINAC, whose many roles and responsibilities were touched on in a previous Daily, credited the country’s comprehensive forest fire prevention plans and the work of Costa Ricans throughout the country in protecting our ecosystems.

Staying vigilant about forest fires is a crucial part of life in Guanacaste, since tropical dry forest is a high risk for fires. This is why the Las Catalinas Incendios Forestales team’s track record of zero uncontrolled fires on property is particularly impressive. Their work and outreach in the community are one of many valuable efforts keeping Costa Rica national parks and reserves beautiful and full of life.

ICT Launches “Only the Essentials” Tourism Campaign

Also notable this week was the launch of a new “only the Essentials” campaign by ICT, the Costa Rican tourism board.

The campaign focuses on Costa Rica as a way to get back to the basics, and “connect with the essence of life: nature, well-being, culture and adventure.”

Four key elements of life in the country, and a vision for Costa Rican tourism (and Costa Rican living) that town embraces wholeheartedly.

This week’s event spotlight is the Día de la Independencia brunch hosted by the Santarena Hotel this Sunday at 10am.
