Yesterday there were a few clouds drifting across the sun right around sunset. The result was a bit more interplay of shadow and sunlight throughout town, one which accented some of town’s more hidden spaces.
The concept of “hidden” is explored often in architecture and design, and in town partially hidden towns, streets, and plazas make a walk around town more interesting. When perceiving a piece of a whole, the brain is naturally motivated to want to explore, and this technique is used to make town’s spaces feel more desirable and interesting. When you catch a glimpse of Plaza Escondida through the trees, around the corner, or through the bushes, it feels rewarding to arrive there.
Yesterday’s in-and-out shadows only added to that feeling. When the light suddenly catches a fountain or a walkway is briefly dark, it makes these spaces even more naturally desirable to visit.
