In this Daily -- What is Semana Santa?

Set for a very warm morning today, peaking in the high 80s around noon before falling off as the breeze picks up coming from off of the ocean. Swell will be moderate, with the waves breaking slowly and steadily throughout the morning before getting a bit choppier as the onshore breeze picks up, so the morning will definitely be ideal for a boogie boarding trip to Playa Danta.

Today marks the first day of Semana Santa, a very prominent Costa Rican holiday. Taking place during the week leading up to Easter Sunday, Semana Santa (or "Holy Week") is a time when many schools across the country are out for vacation, building up to two of the week's federal holidays on Good Thursday and Good Friday.

It's a time of year when Costa Ricans come together with family and friends, often making the journey to beaches or other vacation spots, for some time to take a break from the busyness of life and enjoy time with loved ones.

And as we mentioned in yesterday's Daily, there are a whole set of fun activities planned this week leading up to this weekend. Enjoy Semana Santa!
